A Complete Guide to EHC Plans

This session would be ideal for parents and carers of children and young people (aged 0-25
years) with additional needs who:

  •  are about to start or will be going through the process of getting an assessment for
    their first EHC plan
  • currently have a statement of special educational needs and are transferring to an
    EHC plan (this is also via an assessment)
  • wish to improve the quality of an existing plan

This supportive and practical workshop will separate fact from fiction and supports outcomes
and provision planning with partners in your child’s education. The session will cover:

  • What an EHC plan is and when it becomes necessary
  • Law around assessment, processes and timescales
  • How to apply
  • A section by section guide to the actual plan and its content, do’s and don’ts and myth busting
  • Example EHCPs, templates and tools to help
  • Annual Review
  • New rights of young adults, post 16
  • Additional help and support

The trainer— Lisa Thomas – founder SEND Essentials.
Lisa is also our Development Associate at Up on Down’s and is a parent carer of a teenager with Down’s Syndrome. She has experience of mainstream and special school education and
complaints upheld by two SENDIST appeals and the Local Government Ombudsman. Lisa has nearly 30 experience of commercial and SEND training as a qualified professional. She is an
Independent EHCP trainer in Hertfordshire and has developed and delivered over 50 SEND Reform, SEN Support & EHC workshops across the county for HCC/SENDIASS/HPCI and other
local support groups. Lisa facilitates workshops in which parents are able to share knowledge, expertise and resources to support each other’s learning and drive more thorough planning and
improved outcomes for our children and young people.
